For sale is a Smith & Wesson DA 45 Model of 1917 revolver in .45 ACP. Serial number-68695. This revolver is in fantastic condition however, it may have been refinished. This M1917 also still has its lanyard ring and comes with an S&W patented half-moon ring that was made for M1917 revolvers.

Military 1917s are in the #1 thru # 169959 (the estimated last military #), this revolver has a 68695 military number. This M1917 is marked S3", (military acceptance proof mark) as seen on this revolver on the left side frame up near the hammer. The underside of the barrel is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY". The rear cylinder face is stamped with a single S4.

The Colt M1917 served the US military for much of the 20th century including WWI, WWII, Korea, and even Vietnam! During WWI the revolver was issued due to the shortage of M1911s. It later was reissued to "specialty troops" such as tankers during the 2nd World War. During the Vietnam war "Tunnel Rats" used M1917s in their search and destroy missions into cramped dark tunnels.
