For sale is a Lee-Enfield SMLE MKIII* bolt action rifle in .303 British. Serial number- 37978. All SNs appear to be matching but the original serial was crossed out and reserialized most likely when it reentered service during WWII. The SMLE Rifle (Short Magazine Lee Enfield) first appeared on the world stage in 1904, a revised version of the SMLE later proved its worth during World War 1, where it became the standard issue rifle for the British Army. Many of these rifles reentered service for British soldiers during WWII.
