For sale is an Ithaca 1911A1 semi-automatic pistol in .45 ACP. Serial number-1887840. MFG: 1944. This pistol is in great condition for its age and comes with 2 magazines. One of the magazines has an R stamp on it which indicates it was manufactured by Risdon Tool & Machine. Stamps are: “FJA” Ordnance inspector’s mark of Col. Frank J. Atwood. Lt. Col. Frank J. Atwood was the U.S. Army Ordnance officer in charge of war production in the Rochester district of New York from 1942 to 1946 and both the Remington Rand and Ithaca factories were under his control. M1911A1s accepted during that time from those makers will have his FJA mark. Also “P” proof marks. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with “ITHACA GUN CO. INC. ITHACA NY” in two lines.

The Model 1911, designed by legendary firearms expert John Browning, served as the standard-issue sidearm for the United States military from 1911 until its replacement in 1986 after being utilized in significant wars such as WWI, WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Even today, some US Special Forces continue to use it. Due to their high demand, owning a WWII 1911 in amazing condition, like this one, is a rare opportunity.
