Paul Placek –
7/13/2023 A caution about the Virginia Dragoon .44 magnum (mine in brushed stainless, mine April 16, 1974). There are TWO grooves in the base pin with a spring latch which holds the cylinder in place. During assembly, if you push the pin back in too far and engage the SECOND NOTCH with the base pin spring latch screw, the action will lock up tight with the hammer back. Major disassembly by a gunsmith would be required to make the gun functional. When re-inserting the base pin, push in only far enough to lock it in such that 3/4″ (2 mm) extends from the frame. That base pin with two grooves is a design defect and that pin should not have been released with this gun. Paul Placek [email protected].
