DWM Gewehr 98 – 8mm Mauser
$2,899.00
For sale is a DWM Gewehr Model 1898 bolt action rifle in 7.92×57/8mm Mauser. Serial number- 7092. This rifle is in great condition, considering it is almost 120 years old! This is an example of a very hard-to-find World War I Model 98 Mauser made by DWM in 1907. There is not an import mark. Most of the serials match however, there are 3 serials on the whole firearm that do not, namely on the back of the bolt, the safety, and the butt plate. However, these parts have patinaed with the rest of the gun so were likely time period fixes. Everything else matches, including the stock. Finding a DWM Model 98 rifle with this many matching parts and in this condition is extremely hard to find. Very few survived WWI as they were heavily used and parts were replaced, were destroyed during the war or due to forced downsizing of the German military by the Treaty of Versailles. Other rifles received conversions after the war by the Weimar Republic and the Third Riech. It was replaced by the Karabiner 98k by the German Army for World War II, which is essentially a shorter variant of the original Model 1898.
This rifle also comes with a Gewehr 98 Ersatz bayonet with a FAG scabbard. Original 12" Ersatz bayonets are also very hard to find and desirable to collectors. It is a total length of 17.25 inches with split muzzle ring.
The Model 1898 is widely considered by firearm experts as the greatest bolt-action rifle of all time. It not only served several militaries through the first half of the 20th century but inspired other rifles to the modern day. The American Springfield Model 1903 was basically a copy of the action with a few minor changes. V2-B6 Barrel Length: 29 Bore condition: Good Year Manufactured: 1907
Serial Number: 7092
