This M1917 has the government control # 146495 stamped on the butt plate along with U.S. ARMY MODEL 1917. The Colt M1917 served the US military for much of the 20th century including WWI, WWII, Korea, and even Vietnam! During WWI the revolver was issued due to the shortage of M1911s. It later was reissued to "specialty troops" such as tankers during the 2nd World War. During the Vietnam war "Tunnel Rats" used M1917s in their search and destroy missions into cramped dark tunnels.
