Arisaka Type 99 Last Ditch – 7.7x58mm

Arisaka Type 99 Last Ditch – 7.7x58mm

$529.00

For sale is an Arisaka Type 99 bolt-action rifle in 7.7x58mm. Serial number- 55953. This rifle is in good condition for a last-ditch rifle. Last-ditch rifles can be identified by the wood butt plate, simplified front and rear sights, and crude metal work. We think this rifle is a series 3 but it is hard to tell as the "Kana" had a light strike. It also features a Howa Jyuko Arsenal stamp and the chrysanthemum stamp is not present. It is believed an order to file off the symbol of the Emperor was made after the conclusion of the war in the Pacific (the order could have been made by either the Japanese or US).

The Arisaka Type 99 was the standard issue of the Imperial Japanese military during the 2nd Sino-Japanese War and World War II. At the end of the war in the Pacific, the Japanese were surrounded by their enemies and cut off from war material. However, they were ready to fight to the bitter end. Arisaka Type 99s show how desperate the Japanese were to continue the fight regardless of their shortage of vital materials. The butt plate is made of wood, the rear sight is very basic compared to the complex airplane sights, and crude worked barrel and receiver. It marks a very specific time of WWII history for Japan. Great for a WWII collection.
