History: After WWII, bolt action rifles grew in domestic popularity. Compared to the Mauser 98, the Sauer 90 had much smoother bolt-action. The Mauser 98 bolt locks by way of two lugs that cause friction and non-smooth action. The bolt on the Sauer 90 was marketed as closing itself.
